The Wiki Loves Pyramids Meetup is a planned social day trip to the Teotihuacan complex, located just 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Mexico City, on Monday July 20, immediately after the formal conclusion of Wikimania.

This is a Wikimania opportunity unprecedented since 2008!

See voy:Teotihuacan for travel information. Bus tickets are $35 MXN each way (~$2 USD) for a public bus, or about $200 MXN (~$13 USD) for a tour bus - the tour bus is recommended.

Visit to the Pyramids at 7 am on 20 of July

Hi everyone, we have ordered a bus for July 20 at 7 am, we start at 7 am and we come back at 4 pm (estimated time of arrival at hotel). We can leave our luggage here in the hotel. The program includes the following places:

The cost of the visit is 520 pesos OR $37 USD, We can pay either pesos or dolors. You can pay in Reception at concierge desk before 8 pm today to confirm your place in the bus and confirme person's number to make it easy bus reservation. Yeah since hotel check-out time is 12PM, I think we should check out early (7 AM) and are we (1) bringing our luggage with us during the tour, or (2) left our luggage at the hotel for them to look after and later collect it back? Or is it possible to leave the luggage at the hotel and the bus stops at the hotel to pick up luggage and continue to the airport? I don't believe we can take the bus to the airport, but it probably makes sense to check your luggage at the hotel. Interested during conference

Is anyone interested to go during the conference itself? We have booked our flights out on the 20th at half past 1pm, which might mean that it will be tight on the 20th, but we really want to see the pyramids.

Final schedule:

Cost of the Tour (bus, entrance, guide): $520 Pesos (37 USD) per person, payable by everybody at the beginning of the tour, cash is preferred, credit card cost 10% extra.

Since this is a day long trip out in the open at over 2000m height remember to bring enough water to drink (2l min), sun blocker, comfortable walking shoes and hat or similar for portable shade!

7am - Meeting in the Lobby of the Hilton

  1. Stop: Three Cultures Plaza
  2. Stop: Tour of Archeological zone of Teotihuacan: the Quetzalcoatl Building, walk along the “Avenue of Dead” and climb the pyramids of the sun and moon.
  3. Free time inside the Archeological zone of Teotihuacan: grab lunch, take pictures, explore

4pm - Meeting point at Teotihuacan & back to the Hilton

5:30pm Back in Mexico City
