- Abstract (at least 300 words to describe your proposal)
Google has supported the Wikimedia projects and communities frequently and in several ways: from the Google Summer of Code to releases of data, and much more. In 2013, I infiltrated Google, and now I will report on some of the things I learned. Many Googlers are avid fans of Wikipedia, and they would like to help the community in achieving its mission - but often Googlers don't know how to best approach the community with ideas, data, and other forms of support.
The session will consist of two parts:
- The first part is a short presentation, in which I will present previous experiences and ongoing initiatives, like the release of data from Freebase to Wikidata (see [1]).
- The second part will be an open discussion. I will answer questions, gather input, ideas and feedback on what Google can do for the Wikimedia projects and communities, and how these goals can be achieved effectively.
